Schools Development Authority Announces Demolition Activities to Clear Site for a
New Denbo-Crichton Elementary School in Pemberton
PEMBERTON, NJ – The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) today joined Pemberton School District Officials to mark the start of demolition work to make way for the new Denbo-Crichton Elementary School. SDA-constructed schools, like the one to be constructed in Pemberton, are designed and built to make New Jersey’s educational infrastructure stronger and fairer for all students.
"Demolition of the Aletta Crichton Elementary School will pave the way for construction of a new, state-of-the-art educational facility that will provide the children of Pemberton with the learning environment they need to succeed in today's world," said SDA CEO Charles McKenna.
The Denbo-Crichton Elementary School will be a l26,000-square-foot, two-story facility, designed to educate more than 900 students in grades pre-kindergarten through five. The new school will be built on the site of the existing Aletta Crichton Elementary School, which is being demolished. The school will be the second new school facility constructed by the SDA in Pemberton.
"We are very pleased to see the Denbo-Crichton project moving along," said Pemberton Superintendent Tony Trongone. "The transition from abstract to concrete will be realized today with the demolition of the former Aletta Crichton School. The former building is held dearly to many in the Pemberton Learning Community but we know that this new building, provided by the Schools Development Authority, will continue to foster student learning and provide our students and community with a 21st century educational environment."
Tricon Enterprises, Inc. of Keyport was awarded a $1.3 million general construction contract to perform abatement, demolition and site preparation activities. All demolition and associated site work is anticipated for completion in Spring 2018.
The SDA recently issued a Notice of Award to Ernest Bock & Sons, Inc. for design-build services. Following issuance of a Notice to Proceed, the design phase of the design-build contract will commence. The design-build approach typically allows some design and construction activities to proceed concurrently through phased advancement. The new school is currently anticipated to open to students in September 2021. The total estimated SDA project cost is $62 million.
The SDA has invested more than $45 million in completed projects in Pemberton alone including the new Early Childhood Center #1 and 19 health and safety/grant/emergent projects.
The SDA’s current portfolio of active projects is valued at approximately $2 billion – including the Capital Project portfolio, emergent projects and Regular Operating District grants.
