SDA Celebrates Addition/Renovation Project to Cleveland Street Elementary School in Orange
Orange, NJ –The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) joined Orange School District leaders and students as well as state and local officials yesterday
to celebrate the addition/renovation project to Cleveland Street Elementary School.
“This is one of two school projects built by the SDA and the Murphy Administration,
which opened to students this past September,” said SDA CEO, Manuel Da Silva. “We delivered a school facility that preserves its historic charm while
incorporating LEED features, replacing building systems, and redesigning educational spaces. In collaboration with the Orange School District, this project has enhanced and renewed a community school that will now benefit new generations of Orange students in the years ahead.”
The SDA’s addition/renovation project at the Cleveland Street Elementary School in Orange included an
11,500 square-foot addition and renovations to the 100+ year-old existing facility. The addition
provided a flexible, multi-use space with a stage that can be used as a cafeteria, gymnasium, and
auditorium. The renovations included converting the basement areas to provide a main office, a
media center, an art room, a music room, a science room, and a computer instructional area. It also
included replacement of windows
throughout the building, as well as new HVAC equipment, and a replacement stair installation.
Consistent with NJSDA standards, this school was delivered with 1:1 student-device technology.
Terminal Construction was the general contractor of this $51.7 million project. The Architect was Lan Associates and the project was managed by EPIC Management.
The SDA has invested approximately $212 million in completed projects in Orange since the
inception of the school construction program, including the Orange High School addition/renovation project that opened to students in 2021 and the Cleveland Street Elementary School project.
