SCHOOLS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY HOLDS COMMUNITY INFORMATION SESSION ON PASSAIC DAYTON AVENUE CAMPUS

APRIL 9, 2019 – PASSAIC, NJ – The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) hosted a Community Open House for community members, neighbors and stakeholders to discuss construction of the new Dayton Avenue Educational Campus in Passaic.

The Community Open House provided parents, teachers, area residents, stakeholder groups and businesses with an opportunity to learn about the Dayton Avenue project and the business opportunities that it will provide for locals and the region. Attendees heard from SDA CEO Lizette Delgado Polanco, Passaic Mayor Hector Lora and Passaic School District Superintendent Pablo Muñoz, and viewed display boards to learn about plans for the new school.

In February of 2019 the SDA was joined by students, legislative representatives and school administrators for a Groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction in the Dayton Avenue site. https://www.njsda.gov/Public/PressRelease_02112019

"The SDA is building and designing schools that meet educational requirements and provide students with a modern and safe school facility while keeping the community's input in mind," said CEO Delgado Polanco. "We are enthusiastic about bringing this school to the Passaic community and look forward to informing local businesses, parents and stakeholders of the many opportunities of engagement the SDA has to offer."

The new, $240.9 million Dayton Avenue project consists of the construction of an approximately 448,000 square feet, 4-story educational campus that will include four school facilities located in a unified structure with shared central facilities. Centralized facilities include food service and central plant operations. The campus has been designed to educate approximately, 2,760 students (with a maximum of 3,020) in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 8.

Since the SDA's inception, more than $193 million has been invested in Passaic City schools alone. The Passaic Gifted and Talented Academy opened to students in January 2015 and the Leonard Place Elementary School is on schedule to open to students in 2019.

Terminal Construction Corp. of Wood Ridge was awarded the design-build contract. They are working with RSC Architects of Hackensack on the design. Gilbane Building Company of New Brunswick/EPIC Management Inc. of Piscataway is managing the project. The project is anticipated for completion and opening to students in September 2022.
